This two-day tournament served as the first playoffs and championship games for the state of California and was the most recent display of the Los Angeles Chargers' commitment to the growth of the sport. The Los Angeles Chargers were actively at the forefront of the initiative, playing an instrumental role in the state's unanimous approval. This past February, the governing body of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) voted to approve Girls' Flag Football as a sanctioned high school sport in California.
The 500 female athletes in attendance were joined by Chargers safety Derwin James Jr., and wide receivers Quentin Johnston and Derius Davis.
The Los Angeles Chargers hosted the inaugural Chargers Girls Flag Football Championship Tournament Presented by Oakley, welcoming 20 of the top high school programs from throughout Southern California.
